Tuition Assistance

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit paid to eligible active duty members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Congress has given each service the ability to pay up to 100% for the tuition expenses of its members.

Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process and restrictions. This money is usually paid directly to the institution by the individual services.

TA Top-Up Program

Top-Up allows GI Bill® participants to use the GI Bill® to supplement the tuition and fees not covered by tuition assistance. The amount of the benefit can be equal to the difference between the total cost of a college course and the amount of Tuition Assistance that is paid by the military for the course.

To be eligible for the Top-Up benefit, students must be approved for federal Tuition Assistance by a military department and be eligible for MGIB AD benefits: a GI Bill® participant, still on active duty, having served at least two full years.

When requesting your Tuition Assistance, Please note the following:

1.  The new window to apply for TA:  45 days to 7 days prior to the term beginning.
2.  Students must successfully complete a college course with a final grade of "C" or better for undergraduate and "B" or better for graduate.
3.  Any lower grade will result in student reimbursement action.
4.  Student have 120 days to receive a successful grade for "I" incomplete grades or a student reimbursement action will result.
5.  Airmen requesting TA approval after the term end date is not authorized and there are no exceptions.

1.  The DoD will begin recouping for grades below a "C-" for undergraduate work and for grades below a "B-" for graduate work.
2.  The DoD will no longer pay for any fees.  Only tuition will be paid for courses.
3.  US Army students attending Webster University must request TA up to the first day of class (they no longer have 7 days after the course start date to request their TA.
